CHARACTER
Character Name: Ivar Ragnarsson
Character Age: 18
Canon: Vikings
Canon Point: 5x10
History: Link!
Personality: Ivar is first and foremost driven by anger. Ever since he was a child, he's been told that he is next to nothing because he can't walk. Most of his early life that's all he hears. That he will never be normal, that he can never become a Viking warrior, that he'll never gain honor and glory. At first, this is just a source of frustration to him. But as the years go on, frustration turns to anger and fury, for he's tired of being seen as nothing. It twists his mind into something dark and insane. It doesn't matter that he's just as good with the weapons of the age as any of his brothers. No one will ever take him seriously or see him as a potential heir to Rangar's legacy.

Ivar's psychopathy presents itself early on. As a five year old child, he murders another in a simple game. Aside from the shock of the act, he doesn't seem to feel remorse, and this is compounded by his mother telling him that it was not his fault. As the years go on, he becomes ever more unstable and sadistic in his actions. Of all the brothers, save for perhaps Hvitserk, he enjoys killing the most, and often in the most brutal ways as possible. He's the one who seems to enjoy watching King Aelle get blood-eagled the most, and when encountering a Christian priest, he pours molten gold down his throat rather than giving him a more merciful death. He never seems to regret any of his actions, seeing them as necessary, if not outright enjoyable.

Indeed, the only time in the entire series Ivar seems to regret something is when he kills his brother Sigurd. It's a impulsive moment that costs him a member of his family and causes a rift that never fully heals with his other brothers. While he seems to maintain a tough facade outwards about the whole thing, in private, it's clear he regrets what he did, and wishes he could take it all back.

He is also highly ambitious. Despite being the youngest and a cripple, and therefore unlikely to inherit any titles or win any glory, Ivar has many plans always brewing. Whereas the rest of his brothers tend to work less hard, already being princes, Ivar tries twice as hard to be acknowledged and taken seriously by people. Though they're all supposed to ostensibly be in charge of the Great Heathen Army, Ivar tries the hardest to make things go his way. He's not entirely without merit, since he's oftentimes the one coming up with plans to win the battles. When Bjorn leaves, Ivar immediately seizes the remainder of the army, blatantly lying to Ubbe and Hvitserk that they still have equal power to him. By time he's done battling his brothers for Kattegat, he's become king, one of his ultimate goals.

While Ivar is psychotic and psychopathic, there is a side of him rarely seen. He cares deeply about people who make a positive impact in his life. His mother, father, and Floki are all recipients of this. His mother is the only one to pay any attention to him as he's growing up and Ivar flat out says he loves her. Her death enrages him to the point where he possesses a single goal he wishes to fulfill: to kill her murderer. While Ragnar is absent almost his entire life, the minute he comes back, he acknowledges Ivar with kindness, telling him that he is special, and will do great hings. This inspires a loyalty and love great enough to put aside any feuds he has with his brothers in order to take revenge on the English kings who murdered him. Floki is like a second father to him, and Ivar shows how deeply his departure is going to impact him, weeping and saying his heart is broken.

In conjunction with this, he never forgets kindness shown to him. He's so used to people dismissing him that any little bit of positivity has a great impact on him. He almost immediately forgives his father for ten years of abandonment because Ragnar acknowledges him as equal to his other sons. When Alfred shows him kindness when he's being kept in King Ecbert's court, he's shown as being Ivar's first real friend, and he's clearly touched by Alfred giving him a chess pieces as a sign of their friendship. When he's set to sacrifice a slave named Freydis, she's shown to not be afraid of him and give him a lot of encouragement with some wise words. He frees her on the spot to show his gratitude.

Inventory: One set of clothes, his leg braces, several knives, and two axes.

Abilities: Ivar, despite not having use of his legs, is an expert at using the weapons of his time. He's shown to be as good a marksman as any of his brothers when using a bow and arrow, manages to fight one of his brothers to draw with a sword, and is very talented when it comes to using a throwing axe. Though he rarely participates in battles, due to his lack of mobility, when he does, he's shown not to just be a burden, actively killing people who think they've got the drop on him.

He's very good at thinking outside the box, seeing battlefields as just another extension of a game board with pieces on it. He's able to successfully predict how people will react over and over again, allowing him to win almost every battle he enters. Part of this comes from a lifetime of playing hnefatafl, a Viking game similar to chess, and chess itself.

Also, he's just really strong from a lifetime of crawling around using only his arms. He manages to crush a wooden chess piece with only one hand when upset.

Flaws: Ivar has done many terrible things in his life. He's killed without remorse, tortured people for fun, and even gone so far as to sacrifice children to ensure success in his battles. He self-proclaims that he enjoys killing and he is very good at it. He holds onto grudges well past when he should and almost never forgives anyone who slights him He's never felt bad about any of it except for perhaps murdering his brother Sigurd. He's pushed his entire family away in favor of his ambitions instead.

ragnarsson: ([17.50] I can fly)
The Roommates
Ivar's currently living in a mansion with three other people and his daughter Winter. It's basically a home for wayward teens.
Marco
Before he can really stare too long, Marco's transformed back into a human. A male human. Who is good looking. And dressed in very tight clothing. Ivar definitely wasn't expecting this either. Oh dear.

Ivar met Marco when he was shapeshifted into a llama. He was pretty much infatuated with the handsome Animorph as soon as he shifted back, a first for Ivar in recognizing his feelings for others. Marco just seems to get him on a level others don't, accepting of the Viking's violent nature rather than freaking out or trying to turn him on a different path. Recently, he finally admitted to Marco that he actually had feelings for him, and to Ivar's great relief and happiness, they were reciprocated. They're still figuring things go from here right now.

Lola Pacini
....Your hair is blue.

[Brilliant observation, Ivar.]

A girl from the twenty-first century, Ivar is occasionally reminded that he's a teenager when he's around her rather than the adult he tries to be otherwise. She's kind, bubbly, and occasionally has moments of frivolity, but they tend to get along more often than not. However, during an event when they were both not themselves but alternate versions, they ended up sleeping together. It's led to some awkwardness on their part as well as straining the relationship he has with Letha. They've still remained friends and some of the awkwardness has begun to fade, enough that they're alright living together.

Nico di Angelo
Family on the godly side tends to be a bit complicated like that.

What happens when the son of a god meets the grandson of a god from a different pantheon? Well, as it turns out, they have quite a bit in common, especially when it comes to the complexities that come with divine lineage. Over time, the son of Hades has become a friend to Ivar, even though their vastly different personalities don't always mesh. They live in the same mansion now.

The Former Roommates
Ivar found himself sharing space with nine other men when he arrived in Riverview. While some have come and gone, there's a core group that have remained, most coming from the same world, the Marvel 616 universe. He gets along with most of them, but he makes no promises about not slitting their throats in their sleep if the whim strikes him. Some eventually moved out and Ivar did too.
James "Bucky" Barnes
Bucky just looks incredibly skeptical. Things on fire kind of lose their novelty when your teenage best friend could set himself on fire, and did so often.

A soldier with a most curious metal arm, Ivar appreciates Bucky's solid presence on the floor, definitely being one of the most responsible characters he's met, with enough tact to keep Ivar's usual anger from rising up in his presence. He also seems to be a bit of a mother hen, at least when it comes to the impulsive decisions that Ivar makes like trying to tame a fire horse. Ivar's come to rely on him as a bit of a parental figure, going to the old soldier when he's gone through such things as his first heartbreak.

Loki Laufeyson
Who are you?

Moon King and Wanderer, Silvertongue, Son of Secrets ...Lie-smith. Shapeshifter.

Trickster.

One of the Asgardian gods, Ivar immediately bonded with the godling, for each knew a little of the other's histories. Already a worshiper of the Norse gods, he could barely believe he was face-to-face with one in real life, and especially one that he had always admired for his cleverness. Ivar has found in the god both someone to worship, a friend that understands exactly where the young Viking comes from and what makes up his culture, and occasionally unbeknownst to him, someone who is watching over him.

Steve Rogers
Ivar glances up at Steve. Then continues to stare because the man is built like a brick wall.

Someone that Ivar hasn't gotten to known too well yet. He does recognize the man is a warrior of some kind, recognizing a strength in him that keeps him going no matter what gets thrown at him. He did end up having a vulnerable moment where he mentioned his brothers to Steve when he was missing them. He also has fun being a troll to Steve, since the soldier has such different values than from the Viking society.

Stephen Strange
[They need adult supervision. Well, more adult supervision in Strange's case.]

The last of the three magic-users on the floor, Ivar has found despite the scruffy appearance, he does seem to have it together most of the time. Key word there being most. He helped Ivar out with his Ponyta and Ivar has approved of the little Lillipup that has adopted him as his owner. Ivar hopes one day to bust open the safe where he keeps his meals so that he can properly fight one of them.

Friends
For the first time in probably his entire life, Ivar has found people that he actually gets along with, and can call friends. Yes, he's as surprised by this as anyone else. While he's not above manipulating these people or hurting them if it suits his own ends, he's far more interested in keeping these relationships pleasant rather than not.
Yuri Plisetsky
[He very nearly fell off the bed when a maniac burst through the door. Oh, it was just Yuri.]

Anyone who looks at Yuri and Ivar's friendship might think the two teenagers hate each other. They insult each other with almost every sentence, belittle each other with sarcasm, and generally use words like idiot the way other people do nicknames. For all that, Ivar finds that he likes the Russian much more than he lets on. He can joke around with Yuri and insult him without the other becoming too perturbed over it. Their idea of showing affection are very similar, that is, insult the person they care about until they understand that's a form of love. They have a love for destruction they like to indulge him and Yuri has taken it upon himself to introduce Ivar to twentieth-century pop culture.

Loki
But I have to wonder how is this city going to survive two trickster gods?

Another version of the Norse god that has showed up in the city, this Loki is nonetheless a familiar presence to a Viking that is far from home. Despite the differences between the counterparts, a trickster god is a still a trickster, and Loki appears intent on encouraging all sorts of bad behavior from Ivar, whether that's causing chaos when people would rather be sleeping, or teaching him how to use modern-day weapons. Their relationship tends to go up and down like a roller coaster, something that's complicated by how close Ivar has gotten to his other uncle Thor.

Eddie Thawne
"Own your name or it will own you, huh? You know, that's probably a good life lesson for me."

After all, he has a lot of baggage tied up in his own last name.

Eddie was one of the first people Ivar met in Riverview and Ivar took a shine to him almost immediately. He was a good man, the sort who didn't judge Ivar because he couldn't walk. Then Eddie actually saved his life, preventing Dodger from killing him during a vicious fight, and staying with him in the hospital until he woke up. Such an intense course of events pretty much guaranteed Eddie's continued presence in looking out for the young Viking as a type of dad figure. He seems to sometimes be the only thing standing in the way of Ivar murdering Dodger.

Ronan Lynch
"What dreams do you have? Jesus man, you just lapped up blood like a fucking wolf and you can tell it's human? The hell is wrong with you?" said the boy holding a bleeding flower.

Ivar has been fascinated by Ronan since the first time he met. At first, he thought it was purely because the teen was interesting, between his dream powers and the similar anger issues he had to Ivar himself. It took him a ridiculously long time to realize he had developed a crush on Ronan, the first time that had ever happened with someone of the male persuasion. While nothing has ever come of it since both of them are with other people, Ivar can't help but be drawn back time and again to his intense, strange friend. Their relationship has been a little strained as of late, since Ivar has been unable to confess how he really feels, something that Ronan is completely clueless and oblivious to. Ivar became completely furious after Ronan nearly died due to an attack from his night horrors. Who knows where their relationship will go next?

Thor Odinson
[It's just as exciting for him, to meet someone who holds the same values and traditions. Someone who knows what it's like to be raised by warriors.]

Vikings are very special to the Thunder God and Thor is very important to Vikings. So, of course it would stand to reason that the god and his half-nephew would get along in a good fashion. Ivar admires his god in a worshipful sense and he's been thankful to have the opportunity to get to know him better. Plus, he'll have bragging rights for the rest of eternity with his brothers once he gets home. Thor, though he might not be entirely aware of it, is one of the few people Ivar is willing to listen to in the Quarantine. While Loki put some doubts into Ivar's head regarding the motivations for why Thor would be willing to have him around, he seems to have had those put to rest for the moment.

Bucky Barnes
What makes you think I'm the one whose going to get hurt?

Because I'm better than you are.

Ivar's relationship with Bucky started off with the two of them getting into a fight, which can sum up what's been happening since then quite well. Fascinated by the skills the ex-assassin possessed, Ivar asked to be trained by him. Bucky agreed, but this was short-lived as he discovered the Viking teen's true unstable mind. He refused to train him any longer, but Ivar wouldn't simply let the standoffish man be, for reasons he himself didn't entirely understand.

Giving a gift during Prijata to mend fences, he confessed to Bucky the lack of conscience and connection he felt towards other people. This disturbed the former Winter Soldier, but rather than cutting his losses, he attempted to explain to Ivar how he could learn to behave otherwise. Coming from anyone else, Ivar would have dismissed the advice, but from Bucky, he took it to heart. During the event where their alternate selves replaced their usual ones, he got to see a completely different side of Bucky, and for the first time, they were actual friends.

Now back to normal, the Viking found him to be somewhere between a friend and a mentor. He was eager to keep the connection between them alive. Bucky was not so happy when he learned Ivar went behind his back to learn how to shoot a gun. Eager not to disappoint someone he'd come to see as a parental figure, Ivar agreed not to use one until Bucky deemed him ready. As of late, Ivar has considered him a friend, though Bucky seems very reluctant to allow himself to get close to anyone, especially someone like Ivar who underestimates just how dangerous he can be.

Ivar finally found out Bucky's background when he saw part of his memories as the Winter Soldier. It gave the Viking insight into why his friend is just the way he is. It hasn't dissuaded him from spending time with Bucky at all, for now he seems to think the ex-assassin needs him. After showing enough self-control, Bucky finally has deemed him ready to learn how to use guns.

Laura Howlett "X-23-23"
[She considers it for a moment. It all sounds pretty familiar — fighting for what you want, that is. She did not want to be a weapon, she did not want to fight for a living. It didn't mean she wasn't willing to battle for her freedom. Don't be what they made you, Logan had told her. And she wants to do her best to follow that.]

Laura is basically the little sister Ivar never knew that he wanted. A girl almost as emotionally stunted as himself, he's found her to be both dangerous, but someone he's found himself trusting nonetheless. This was put to the test when she had a freak-out in the hospital, but they managed to get through it without anyone getting hurt. She recently showed a more vulnerable side as she confessed how much it hurt when people left. All Ivar could do was reassure her is that he wouldn't be one of them.

Rey
I take it peace isn't an option for Vikings?

Rey is someone that Ivar found himself warming up to almost from the moment he met her, a rarity for the Viking. They found a common ground in having been abandoned by their parents when they were young, and despite coming from such different backgrounds as the 800s and space, they've become friends. Perhaps, also, he might feel something a little bit more, not that these two can tell with being out of touch with their emotions as they are. Rey trusts Ivar enough to let him do something like braid her hair, an act that he would do with few others.

Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III
[Ivar's at little loss for words at being faced with an honest-to-gods dragon. This is one of the coolest things he's seen in months.]

What's cooler than a Viking? A Viking with a dragon, of course! Ivar met Hiccup and his dragon Toothless soon after they arrived. He's found quite a bit in common with the other Viking, both of them outsiders among their people, more prone to thinking things through than just fighting. Ivar got to experience a memory of the two flying together, something that was one of the most thrilling experiences of his life. Hiccup offered to adjust his saddle so Ivar could experience it for real, something that touched the teenage Viking deeply.

Enemies
Fuck these people. Ivar actively hates and despises them. They bring out the side of him that just wants to impulsively stab someone until they stop moving. If he hasn't killed them, it's only because he hasn't found a good way to do it yet.
Jamie Dodger
Ivar fully intends to see Dodger dead by his hands. It's every frustration, every humiliation, every person who has ever laughed at him, called him useless, or seen him as nothing all rolled into one.

Dodger was the first person Ivar found himself truly hating in the Quarantine. He mocked Ivar for being unable to walk, beat him in a fight, and left him with a burning desire for revenge. The second attempt nearly took Ivar's life, but he left Dodger without a right eye in exchange. This did nothing to dissuade the Viking from trying to kill someone he saw as a representation of everything he's been fighting against his whole life.

After shenanigans with the chalice left them as alternate selves a lot less angry and likely to kill each other, the two of them came to an uneasy sort of truce. It didn't last forever, but it did give them a good look at each other. Since then, Ivar's fought Dodger a few more times, and each time, neither one comes out on top. After viewing each other's memories, they came to another truce. But Ivar's not naive enough to think that it will last forever. He's determined to get his revenge on the man for good. As his father always said, beware the fury of a patient man.

Acquaintances
These are those that he's only met once or twice, people that he hasn't categorized in his mind yet. They could potentially fall into another grouping once he gets to know them better.
Tony Stark
Oh gods. There's another one. Why did they see fit to make two of you?

The other Tony Stark. Ivar's not sure whether to be amused or alarmed that there's two of them in Riverview. He doesn't know this one as well as the one that lives on his floor and he's not sure he wants to, considering this one is a bit of a drunken mess. Also still arrogant and possibly insane, proving that a Stark is a Stark no matter what universe they're in.

Reaper (Gabriel Reyes)
[A pause. A stare... he fixes his hat.]

Norway. 800s.

...

Vikings?

The first time Ivar spoke to Reaper, he wasn't concerned too much about the other's mask. He was more interested in what the undead man had to say regarding having his shit together more than some of the denizens in the city. The second time they met was during the event where the chalice was affecting them. It was quite a different experienced, considering Ivar was less angry, and Gabriel a lot less...undead. He must say, he much preferred this version of the man.
Stephen Strange
Where I come from, there is something called the Multiverse. Worlds within worlds and worlds without end. So, in truth, there could very well be multiple versions of all of our worlds. We just haven't discovered them all yet.

Another version of Dr. Strange that has showed up in Riverview, Ivar's found this one to be more bearable than some of the other doubles. Tony Stark, for example As a doctor, he's the first one to have told Ivar about his brittle bone disease, finally giving him some peace of mind on the condition that's plagued him his entire life.

Peter "Star Lord" Quill
Hey, if I liked songs about fluffy bunnies, I'd give you songs about fluffy bunnies. I prefer songs I could listen to while killing someone in a battle.

A man with the most eclectic taste in music, Ivar has found he rather enjoys getting music recommendations from him. Of course, he also enjoys trolling him when he has the chance too. He could end up getting along with him better or end up wanting to gut him like a fish. Time will tell.

Shigeru Miyata
I'm sorry! I shouldn't of just assumed. Is this easier?

[ He's never had to deal with someone who couldn't read. So he apologizes for assuming!! ]

A rather odd doctor from the hospital, Shigeru got into Ivar's good books by showing a genuine interest in Winter, even if he did seem rather nervous. He also rather liked the fact that Shigeru likes peculiar pets, a trait that Ivar himself has.

Edward Elric
[Give him a minute Ivar, he might be having a stroke.]

You can't just give up your soul like it's not a big deal!

A man who has experienced more than his fair share of strange worlds, Ivar finds the alchemist fascinating, even if he does think he has the sensibilities sometimes of an old, bossy woman. They recently got into a discussion over the loss of a soul, something which prompted Edward to offer his help to the young Viking. Only time will tell if he takes him up on the offer.

Gone But Not Forgotten
Those that have left Riverview permanently. Ivar remembers them all.
Michael Scofield
It's the closest Michael's come to being honest with anyone in Riverview. Maybe because sitting here, with Ivar like this, reminds him a little bit of home, and his old life. Before everything had gone to hell.

Michael's someone Ivar has found himself being more honest with than most in Riverview. They seem to have a bit in common with their backgrounds and family situations despite having over a thousand years of history dividing them. He also seems to be watching over the young Viking to make sure he doesn't do anything stupid like burn the place down training his Ponyta.

Wikus van der Merwe
"Is that an antennae?" He kind of wants to touch it. Is that weird?

A man turning into an alien that Ivar has take a keen interest in. He's half-convinced he's got a curse on him from some vengeful god for past transgressions. The Viking has never seen anyone like what Wikus is becoming before. The physical transformation is fascinating and Ivar often asks rude and blunt questions about the process.

Eichi Tenshouin
You know, if someone's health was that bad back home, I'd say that person might be dying.

[Not to put too fine of a dramatic point on it.]

Ivar met Eichi when the latter literally fainted away dead in his arms. While normally he would have probably just dumped him in a heap on the ground, this was during when the chalice was affecting everyone, so Ivar had a bit more in the way of faking compassion than he normally did. He met the idol again after a fight with Dodger left him terribly wounded and terrified out of his mind from fear toxin. He healed Ivar, for which the Viking was profoundly grateful.

Letha Regis
"I've always had a dream of marrying some ragged hero... living alone in exile and fighting for survival. But I suppose that would be less romantic in practice."

Letha is Ivar's girlfriend, and yes, no one is more surprised by him than this turn of events. He met the pregnant Victorian-era necromancer when he first came to Riverview and they quickly formed a bond. Letha soon made it clear how she felt. It took Ivar a little longer to admit what he felt too, for he thought no woman would ever want a poor cripple. While they don't get along perfectly and Ivar sometimes still feels an intense urge to ram a knife through her throat, he restrains himself because he's found someone who honestly cares about him, and loves him just the way he is. They recently moved into a house together, marking another serious turning point in their relationship.

Things became more complicated after Ivar was unable to say he loved her. Then they got strained during the event where a chalice switched them out with alternate versions of themselves. Letha was de-aged to an eight year old, so Ivar ended up sleeping with an alternate version of Lola during the event. When she found out, they had a terrible fight about it. He'd still be mad at her, but her failing health means he's buried his emotions down instead so that he can watch out for her.

As their daughter's birth drew near, Letha became sicker and sicker from the baby's strange powers. On the verge of dying, she had a C-section. Ivar was thrilled with his new little girl, loving her from the moment he held her in his arms, whom he happily named Winter Istrid Regis Ivarsdottir. Letha could only see an abomination in the form of her powers, which sucked life from people, powers in her world that made the girl known as a healer. It caused a great rift between the two of them and Ivar was determined to stay mad at her for a good long while.

Finally, their rift began to mend when Letha lost the prejudicial memories during an bout of amnesia. Happy to have his little family together, Ivar had it all. It wasn't to last. After a night where they finally consummated their relationship, and Ivar finally worked up the courage to confess to Letha that he loved her, Letha abruptly left without saying goodbye, choosing to go through the portal to Ivar's world. This devastated the young Viking as he experienced his first heartbreak. Missing her terribly, he can't decide if he wants her to come back, or if he wants to strangle her to death.

Billy Kaplan
Wow, you know-- this is really cool. I never thought I'd meet an actual viking, let alone a famous one. [He grins in return because seriously, total fanboy moment realized here.]

A self-professed Viking fanboy and magic-user, Billy is considered by Ivar to be a friend. Plus, having someone totally tell him how cool he is just feeds right into his ego. He also has an adorable little pet, so they definitely need to get together for pet playdates.

Tony Stark
You know, dismissing most of what Tony says as ramblings as a madman might actually be a good way to go about things.

Arrogant, cocky, and possibly insane, Ivar nonetheless finds Tony rather interesting. He senses there's a lot more to the man than just the flippant nature seen on the surface and has seen glimpses that show him how damaged Tony is on the inside. But he's not interested in trying to fix him, not when such a mind is producing such fun toys for Ivar to play with like arm guards that bring back his weapons for him.

Ellie
No, it's not-- I didn't mean like, actually call us chickens. It's just a saying! [jdtshj; her life though. She just groans, having brought this 100 percent upon herself, and just. Lets it go for now.]

Ellie is basically the one that Ivar keeps learning modern phrases from, even if he does end up butchering some of them. See the above quote for just one example. He likes her well enough, though occasionally he feels that she comes from a place that was very hard. He hasn't pushed her into talking about it though. He knows just what a hard life entails.

Spike
Ooo, scary. What do you do with those big teeth? Eat children?

A vampire, Ivar really should take this monster a lot more seriously than he does. He can't help it, he's stupidly fearless when it comes to things that can kill him. While the two of them seem to have formed a vitriolic sort of relationship, Ivar really doesn't mind or is annoyed as much by Spike as he pretends to be. There's worst things in the world to be friends with than a blood-sucking monster.

Damian Wayne "Robin"
Why can't you walk?

( Tact, thy name is Damian Wayne )

Damian is a bit of a conundrum to the Viking. One minute, he's a kid wanting to see the Pokemon that live in the woods, the next they're bonding over their love of killing. He wavers between acting his age and being far beyond what his years would suggest. Out of everyone in the Quarantine, he finds that maybe this (former?) assassin gets what's going on beneath his surface better than many others do.

Giovanni Rammsteiner
Looks like someone had fun.

[Ivar's got skewed priorities on what constitutes as fun around here.]

It was a blast. Glad to know someone can appreciate it!

It was inevitable that someone even more crazy and bloodthirsty than Ivar himself would inevitably show up in Riverview. Giovanni is definitely that person. Surprisingly, the two of them have been getting along swimmingly, sharing a love of violence, murder, and a lack of conscience. God help the city if they decide to team up for some chaos.

Jacob Kane (Cain)
"And I'm the king of Rome," he said with a heavy tint of wry sarcasm. Of course, he was telling the absolute truth but it just figured that he'd end up with the high school reboot of someone he'd actually heard of in his own times.

Don't ask why, but there's just something about Cain that rubs Ivar entirely the wrong way. They got off on the wrong foot when Ivar was just out of the hospital and it just continued from there. Ivar's annoyance at the man eventually turned into a murder attempt. Attempt being key word since Cain can't die. To which the shocked Viking has only one thought: "Challenge accepted."

Professor Augustine Sycamore
Pokemon can understand anything you said, but I recommend you should watch your words carefully. It might feel offended if you don't.

A Pokemon professor who has proven invaluable to Ivar in training his Ponyta. He's provided a lot of advice so that Ivar isn't just blindly trying to do the best he can with his fire horse. He also accompanied the man on a mission to test the Pokedex. He was instrumental in helping Ivar to understand his Pokemon better.

Illya Kuryakin
[Illya can tell he’s being read with the way he plays chess. It’s pretty… distinctive to each person, after all, and tells a lot about a person.]

An intelligent sort of man who has experienced the same feeling of being out of time like Ivar has, he also doesn't seem put off by the fact Ivar is in a wheelchair, a gratifying feeling for the Viking. He's definitely someone Ivar would like to get to know better.

Character Information
Character Name: Ivar "The Boneless" Ragnarsson
Canon: Vikings
Canon Point: Episode 4.18
History: Wiki link!
Personality: First and foremost, the thing that has shaped Ivar's personality the most is his disability. Born in a time and culture where being able-bodied meant everything, he was born with nothing. Everyone told his parents to abandon him in the woods, and indeed, his father tries to. As she would do so many times throughout his early life, his mother rescued him.

In his early childhood, Ivar knew he was different, but it didn't bother him too much. He had his mother, his brothers, and for the brief moments he was around, his father. His mother doted upon him, giving him all sorts of special attention while neglecting her other children. Ivar became extremely spoiled, a trait that would follow him into adulthood. By the time he was five years old, this began to change. He realized he wasn't like the other children. He was an outcast from them. This was heightened during an incident that showed his developing personality. Ivar wanted to play with the other children, but they were ignoring him. When the ball was finally tossed to him, another child tried to take it away from him. Frustrated and upset, Ivar picked up an axe and slammed it into the boy's head, killing him instantly.

While Ivar initially appeared horrified by his act, he was assured by his mother that it was not his fault. He soon got over it. This early act of brutality marked that there was something very wrong with Ivar. There was the budding personality of a psychopath in the making. It was marked by another incident in which his niece Siggy drowned. Rather than show a proper response, the young boy laughed and said, "Who cares?" It's shown early on that Ivar doesn't care about most people and very few of them are real to him.

Ten years down the road, Ivar has turned into a very brutal and angry young man. Everyone judges him as soon as they take a look at him. Most Vikings think he's less than nothing or outright mock him. It's formed a huge chip on his shoulder and his anger is now his primary motivating force. He pushes himself to not just be as good as other Vikings like his brothers, but to be even better than they are. But he's purposeless, wandering about without a specific idea of where his life is going to head.

This changes when his father Ragnar comes back into his life after being absent for ten years. Ragnar is the first one to push him and make him think beyond just dragging himself around for the rest of his life. He becomes motivated and pushes himself to be better than he's ever been. It's also the first time in a very long while he allows himself to love anyone. He should be angry with his father, and to an extent, he is. But Ragnar is charismatic and believes in Ivar, more so than anyone else ever has. So Ivar grows close to his father in a short amount of time, giving the man his love, and more importantly, his loyalty.

But then Ragnar dies. And his mother Aslaug dies too. So Ivar is left along without the two people he loves most in the world. But rather than curl up and cry about it, he's furious. This is where a big part of his personality will be formed. His rage is what will sustain as he plots revenge. He plots with his brothers to take on all of England. While his brothers refuse to let him lead the army since he's got no battle experience, Ivar is shown to be a very brilliant military strategist. He works things out, like successfully predicting the moves of an army and their leader that he had never seen before.

His personality is best summed up in three words: brutal, clever, and cruel. He will tear anyone who gets in his way apart. Whatever he wants, he will get, if he has to steamroll over everyone in his path to get there. Even his own brothers aren't safe from that side of him. He's also very clever. This comes from being less mobile than other people, something that allows him to pause and analyze instead of rushing in as most Vikings do. He reads people and gets inside their heads. Ivar is also pathologically cruel. He's vicious to his enemies, giving one of them the blood eagle, the worst Viking punishment ever thought up. Even his family isn't safe from him. He kills his own brother in a fit of anger.

However, while Ivar may act wise beyond his years and act like a man, he's still a young teenager. He's shown to have very little self-confidence and what he does have can crumple like a house of cards at the slightest blow. He hates above all things to be pitied and feels like that's all anyone will ever give him. When he's with a woman for the first time, he expects her to turn him down, and when she agrees, it goes disastrously. He's shown for the first time to be vulnerable, hurting and embarrassed. He never shows this side to anyone, preferring to show only a tough front that can't be cracked to the world.

Items on your character at canon point: One set of archaic clothes: shirt, vest, pants, and boots. A pair of leather arm braces that help him get around. One throwing axe. Two knives.

Abilities: Ivar has immense upper body strength from literally crawling around most of his life. According to showrunners, he has brittle bone syndrome, so in order to get around, he's either got to move himself using only his arms, or wait around for someone willing to carry him. Being without the use of his legs didn't keep him from learning how to wield weapons and he's shown to actually be better at archery and with a throwing ax than three of his brothers. He can also wield a sword well enough to end in a tied draw with one of them too. He's very intelligent, and despite being young, can devise military strategies good enough to win battles.
Strengths and Weaknesses: One of Ivar's greatest strengths is that he's very intelligent. Whereas most other Vikings are all about just attacking something until they knock it down, he'll be the one looking around for a battering ram instead. Being somewhat immobile means he has more time to think and figure out both how people and things work. He's very good at this and even his brothers take note of his skill at figuring out battlefield strategies.

Ivar is also extremely loyal to those he cares about. There aren't many that fall into this category, but the love he feels for his mother and father are a great motivator for him for most of the series. When he finds out his mother is dead, he challenges her killer to single combat, even though it might mean his own death. When that doesn't work, he plots with Ubbe, his older brother, to bring her down, even though they know their oldest brother Bjorn will try to stop them. When his father dies, Ivar works with his brothers, with whom he doesn't always have the best of relationships, purely because he wants revenge as badly as they do. He wants to avenge the death of the only man who ever believed in him, and before all the gods, he'll get it if he has to raze all of England to do so.

Another trait he has is love. While it may not be obvious, given his cold and otherwise psychopathic personality, Ivar is capable of loving a very few select people. This love gives him the motivation to do anything for them. If his mother or father asked anything of him, he'd do it without questioning it, because they were two of the only people who cared about him. This fuels a desire for revenge that leads him to leading the biggest Viking army ever to England, all to honor his father. To a lesser extent, he does also care for his brothers, save for Sigurd. It's not obvious considering how he usually insults them, but actions speak louder than words, and he tends to be more at home around them than he is with other Vikings.

The last good trait Ivar has is his determination. Other people in that particular time period and in his position, in his own words of being "a cripple and a reject", might have just wallowed in self-pity. Ivar decided early on that not only was he going to be a true Viking, but he was actually going to be better than others at certain things. That's why he works so hard to learn combat weapons and to be smarter than everyone else around him. He figures if he does all this, people will respect and fear him. Even if he can't be physically the same as everyone, he can still be great. All he needs to do is be pointed in the right direction and he'll let nothing stop him from achieving his goals.

One of Ivar's worst qualities, by his own admission, is his anger. While it might be a good quality for a Viking warrior to have, it does make it hard to form meaningful relationships. He's got a huge chip on his shoulder. Everyone he meets is someone he expects to not take him seriously, pity him, or talk down to him because of his physical problems. Therefore, everyone is a potential enemy rather than friend. His anger runs in two forms: either the temporary white hot fury that will be discussed in the impulsive section or the slow burning kind that makes him hold onto grudges until the end of time. Both tend to get him into trouble.

The second bad quality is that he's quite literally psychopathic. There's just something a little bit wrong with him emotionally. Even as a small child of no more than five or six, he impulsively kills another boy because he was frustrated over a game they were playing. He doesn't react to things appropriately, laughing when his niece dies, and not caring about the slaughter of the Vikings in Wessex. He flat out admits he likes killing far more than even the warrior society he's surrounded by does. Between his anger and his cold, uncaring nature, even his brothers, whom he does love to some degree, are rightfully afraid of him.

He's also got a very sharp and acerbic personality. Ivar prefers to keep everyone at arm's length away from him and he does so with a combination of a sharp tongue and violent actions. While this is ostensibly is to prevent himself from getting hurt, it does mean that he eventually ends up pushing most people away sooner or later. He's got almost no friends and even his brothers are eventually pushed away by how he acts.

The last weakness he has is being impulsive. Caused partially by the qualities above, Ivar is extremely impulsive when he gets upset or angry. Even as a young boy, this caused someone's death. As an adult, he makes several attempts on his brother Sigurd's life because of a feud between them, before finally succeeding. Immediately after, he looks shocked and sorry, but taking a life can't be undone. Neither can the occasional cruel, biting things he says out of anger.

Fourthwalling: Since he is a historical character, feel free to point that out, or make mention of reading of him in a history book. But don't point out he's a character on a TV show.
Offensive subjects (elaborate): None. I am the least-offended RPer.

Hugging this character: You can try. He might reciprocate if you're close.
Kissing this character: Sure, but he won't be happy unless he kisses first.
Flirting with this character: Go ahead. It'll give him an ego boost.
Fighting with this character: Go right ahead! Just know he'll fight back hard, either to win or kill.
Injuring this character: All injuries are fine, but anything permanent like losing a limb will need to be discussed.
Killing this character: Discuss first.
Using telepathy/mind reading abilities on this character: Discuss first.

Warnings: Vikings as a whole has tons of violence, brutal death sequences, mutilations, maulings, rape, pillaging, familial incest, and other things from the time period. Ivar himself uses ableist language, is extremely violent, has some thoughts that can be interpreted as being incest, and has very little concept of consensual sex. Please let me know if you would like to opt-out of any of this or the character as a whole.

character information
name: Ivar "The Boneless" Ragnarsson
canon: Vikings
canon point: Post 4.18
age: 16

(canon) background: Here!
(original) world: N/A

abilities: Ivar has immense upper body strength from literally crawling around most of his life. He's very intelligent, and despite being young, can devise military strategies good enough to win battles.

strengths: One of Ivar's greatest strengths is that he's very intelligent.

All he needs to do is be pointed in the right direction and he'll let nothing stop him from achieving his goals.

weaknesses: One of Ivar's worst qualities, by his own admission, is his anger.

The last weakness he has is being impulsive. Caused partially by the two qualities above, Ivar is extremely impulsive when he gets upset or angry. Even as a young boy, this caused someone's death. As an adult, he makes several attempts on his brother Sigurd's life because of a feud between them, before finally succeeding. Immediately after, he looks shocked and sorry, but taking a life can't be undone. Neither can the occasional cruel, biting things he says out of anger.

skills (optional): He can fight, despite his disability, and has a good mind for strategy. He can also be very loyal if properly motivated.
housing (optional): Communal housing, por favor!

network sample: [It's clear whoever is using this device is unused to it. The picture shifts around for a few minutes, and Ivar's face furrowed in concentration is seen several times before he finally realizes that it's on. He points it outward, showing that he's in the kitchen, seated on a chair. His voice, when he speaks, has a vaguely European accent.] I have figured out what these do.

[He shows in turn the fridge, the sink, and the stove. The last one had caused a few burnt fingers, but hey, he'll survive.] But I still have no idea what this does. [He turns the device to the microwave. He's been playing around with the buttons, and while he's been able to turn it on, he hasn't yet realized food is supposed to go inside of it.] Anyone care to enlighten me?

prose/action sample: He didn't really trust any of the people he was sleeping in this communal room with. Ivar had the bad habit of viewing everyone around him with suspicion and anger. He always suspected the worst of people. After all, what did they see him as? A cripple, someone to be pitied, someone who was lesser than they were just by virtue of not having use of his legs. It didn't matter that they probably didn't, this was what his own anger-fueled mind had come up with. He would need to prove to them that he could do whatever they could.

As he lay there in bed, his sleeping mind turned to the past. Once again, he was in battle in England, for once an equal as he was able to fight alongside the other Vikings. No one had pitied him that day as he hacked away at the soldiers that made up King Aelle's force. His body twitched a little in old remembrances of the battlefield. The memory was vivid enough that when one of his roommates entered, his eyes snapped open, and he threw the ax propped up against his bed without thinking.

As he blinked and became fully awake, he noticed their goggle-eyed expression. Huh. He was getting sloppy. That throw should have taken off an ear. Instead, the ax was embedded in the wall next to their head. Ivar didn't offer an apology as he slid off the bed, dragging himself over to the wall to remove the ax. That was going to leave a dent.
