[ There's a little grunt of resignation for the moment. After all, there's not much that he can do about it now that it has been shared already. ]

I don't think I've actually ever seen you that angry.

[Ubbe might have been the most rational of his brothers, but he was still a son of Ragnar. He'd inherited that part of their father that tore through warriors like they were just stalks of wheat when in a beserker-like fury.]

Would you have actually killed her? If you had gotten to her in time?

[That would have caused a whole other set of problems for the brothers when Bjorn got back, but Ivar knew Ubbe wouldn't have been thinking of those. He was consumed by grief and anger.]

[ubbe]

[ It's a difficult question and even as Ubbe relives that memory he's not sure what would have happened. ]

I don't know. It would have been the wrong move if I had, though.

[ragnarsson]

How so? She murdered Mother. How could killing her not have been the right decision?

[Ubbe fully well knew Ivar's rage at having Aslaug taken away from him would never fully abate or stop. He'd always be angry and thirst for revenge against Lagertha.]

[ubbe]

Kill her and then what? Have Bjorn kill me? It would have created an endless cycle.

[ragnarsson]

And what do you think will happen if you decide to kill her now? Or if I do? Bjorn will still never forgive either of us. It's destined to happen one way or another.

[He doesn't include Hvitserk in there, for he'd been no more fond of his mother then Sigurd was. They were the two that would likely end up killing Lagertha.]

[ubbe]

[ Ubbe is quiet for a bit before he responds. ]

You do not know Lagertha now. Nor do you know Bjorn any longer.

[ragnarsson]

Bjorn's the same dumb lump of a bear he's always been. Attack everything in sight is the only way he knows how to plan a battle strategy.

[Ivar wasn't necessarily wrong in his description, but that wasn't the entirety of Bjorn's character either. He snorts at the mention of Lagertha.]

I already know everything I'll ever want to about her. She could become as compassionate as Hlín and wise as Frigg and I would still hate her with the same intensity that I do now.

[ubbe]

You underestimate him and those he allies himself with, Ivar. You'll always come to regret it if you don't stop doing so.

[ Ubbe sighs. ]

That is not what I am inferring, brother. She is weak and she is mostly broken now.

[ragnarsson]

I have regrets in my life, brother, but underestimating Bjorn will never be one of them.

[Ubbe's words do little to soften Ivar's heart.]

Good. Then allowing me to kill her will be a mercy at this point.

[Yep, that point had just flown right over Ivar's head.]

[ubbe]

[ Ubbe sighs deeply. ]

Your arrogance will always be your downfall, brother.

[ There is little he can do to help that. ]

Killing her would only show how weak the person killing her is. There is no honor in it.

[ragnarsson]

And your compassion will be yours.

[He snaps back.]

I see what you are trying to do and it's not going to work. I swore an oath to kill her and I will not stop for any reason.

[ubbe]

[ There is another deep sigh because what else can he do when it comes to Ivar. He's impossible. ]

It will not satisfy anything inside of you.

[ragnarsson]

I highly doubt that.

[There was much satisfaction to be taken from killing his mother's murderer.]

[ubbe]

You will understand one day.
