STATISTICS
Character Name: Ivar "The Boneless" Ragnarsson
Character Canon: Vikings
Character Age: 17
Canon Point: 4x20, after the Norse win the battle against Prince Aethelwulf.
Link to History: Link
Skills: Ivar has immense upper body strength from literally crawling around most of his life. He's strong enough to crush a chess piece with one hand. According to showrunners, he has brittle bone syndrome, so in order to get around, he's either got to move himself using only his arms, or wait around for someone willing to carry him. Being without the use of his legs didn't keep him from learning how to wield weapons and he's shown to actually be better at archery and with a throwing ax than three of his brothers. He can also wield a sword well enough to end in a tie with one of them too. He's very intelligent, and despite being young, can devise military strategies good enough to win battles. Aside from this, he's just a normal human being.

CHARACTERIZATION
FORMATIVE EXPERIENCES:
PHILOSOPHY: Ivar is a young Norse warrior and being born into a culture so vastly different from any other in history has completely shaped the way he looks at the world. Ivar desires power, glory, and honor, all of which is usually accomplished in their culture by fighting and dying on the battlefield. Ivar is no different in this regard, seeing as killing people as an honorable and noble thing to do. In the modern era, this attitude would have made him been considered a psychopath and confined to a mental asylum or jail long ago. In his own culture, he's no different than anyone else. He also sees himself as being an adult despite only being seventeen, for men come of age among the Norse at age twelve. Anyone who tries to talk down to him, ignore him, or show him pity simply because of his age or physical condition will be met with the usual rage burning inside of him. He feels the world around him is kill or be killed and reacts accordingly to all situations with this mindset.
DESIRES: Being born physically disabled has made him push himself hard to not only live but thrive. Ivar is determined to become the most famous Viking in the world, even surpassing his father Ragnar Lothbrok. He seeks to do this by becoming leader of the Great Heathen Army and eventually king. Ultimately, the last goal he wants to achieve is to die with honor upon the battlefield so he can make it to the Viking afterlife. What Ivar doesn't realize subconsciously is that he also wants unconditional love. Losing his father and mother so swiftly one after the other has made him afraid no one will ever stay in his life or love him for who he is. To have that whether in a familial or romantic fashion would be better than any amount of power could ever be for him.
FEARS: Physically, there's a few things Ivar fears. One of the things he fears is breaking a bone bad enough to leave him completely helpless or even being bad enough to kill him. Another is drowning. He was already scared of the ocean when he ended up caught in a terrible storm when sailing with his father to England. Being unable to swim due to his disability, he almost lost his life, and it was only sheer luck that allowed him to survive the experience. Since that time, he's had a fear of it happening again. Mentally, what he fears more than anything else is the people he loves leaving him for good, either by dying or because they no longer care about him. Having both his father and mother die one right after the other has left him thinking no one will ever stick around permanently. He tries to push people away, sure that they won't stay, and in a self-fulfilling prophecy they often don't when they get tired of his bullshit.
- FIRST EVENT: - cw: Infanticide and mercy kill mentioned. Being born. Ivar's life was destined for hardship from the moment of his birth. It was clear right off to his parents that he would be physically disabled. Almost all Norse children born with such severe disabilities were left out to die in the woods, a fate considered far more merciful than letting them grow to adulthood in a culture that prided its members on physical prowess. His mother and father couldn't go through with it and he was allowed to live. But Ivar has been made aware his whole life that he could have had a far different fate, one that could have almost been kinder in a way. It has left him with a lot of self-esteem issues.
- SECOND EVENT: - Ragnar's abandonment. When Ivar was five, Ragnar had a bit of a mental breakdown due to far too much trauma over the years. He abandoned his position as king, his family, and any responsibilities he had to either. Since Ivar was so young, it didn't affect him quite as much as his brothers, but it still was hard to have his father just take off to "find himself" for over ten years. Surprisingly, for someone who held grudges like it's nobody's business, Ivar didn't resent his father much for leaving. He just longed for him to come back so that he could prove that he was just as good as any of his other sons despite his disability.
- THIRD EVENT: - Ragnar taking him to England. When Ragnar eventually came back when Ivar was sixteen, he planned what was essentially one last suicide mission to England. He asked all of his sons to go with him but only Ivar agreed after some prodding from Ivar himself to be asked. He jumped at the chance to go with his father and show he could be a true warrior. While there, he and Ragnar bonded strongly, as Ragnar immediately saw his son didn't need to be coddled and wasn't helpless. He gave Ivar the reality check he needed, telling while he wasn't normal the way other Norsemen were physically, this wasn't necessarily a bad thing and that he could still be the warrior he wanted to be. He realized that his son had the potential for greatness and started planting seeds in Ivar's head to realize that fact. This was honestly one of the happiest times in Ivar's life and he treasured the memories he had during this time.
- FOURTH EVENT: - The deaths of his mother and father. Unfortunately, this was followed by one of the worst periods of his life. Ragnar stayed in England to die, sending Ivar back home. His final words stayed with his son for the rest of his life. "Be ruthless." And Ivar took those words to heart and lived by them. While he somewhat expected his father to die, what came as a shock was his mother Aslaug being slain while he was away from home. Aslaug was his father's second wife and his first wife Lagertha had always resented the fact she got everything Lagertha longed for: power and prestige in the position of being queen, the ability to give Ragnar more sons, and having Ragnar himself as her husband. She shot her in the back to take over her position as queen. Ivar was first shocked upon learning this and then vowed to slay his mother's killer no matter what it took. What complicated this fact is that his oldest brother, Bjorn, was Lagertha's son, which left the family now divided between the sons who wanted revenge and those that did not. Ivar, for his part, had become traumatized by the death of his parents. For all of his tough talk, he was still only seventeen, and losing his parents has left him feeling like no one will ever stay permanently in his life.
- FIFTH EVENT: - Battling in England. Ivar and his brothers immediately plotted revenge on the men who had killed their father. Putting aside their differences for the moment, they raised the largest Norse army ever seen and went to England to kill those who had wronged them. Ivar began to show off the keen intellect he had as he became the strategist for the army. He showed how he could read people even after only knowing them for a short period of time, having been able to predict what an English prince would do on the battlefield commanding his troops after witnessing his behavior in the English court when he'd been there with Ragnar. Ivar proved to everyone else and himself that he had worth as a warrior. He began to see himself as being able to become leader of the army, despite his brothers telling him that wasn't going to happen. He felt on top of the world after helping to kill one of the kings who murdered his father in brutal fashion, and at the canon point he's coming from, they just won a key battle which will allow them to reach the other king they hold responsible for Ragnar's death. Ivar is feeling on top of the world at this moment after having these experiences.

SUITABILITY: Ivar's young and disabled but this hardly makes him helpless. He's independent and able to take care of himself. He's had to grow up tough in a hard world and managed to become a Norse warrior despite being unable to walk, and has aspirations to become a leader of the Great Heathen Army. While life won't be easy for him in Rubi, he's going to do what he's always done and survive whatever gets thrown at him. While he'll gladly accept help, he certainly won't expect it, and will do everything he can to be independent.

MONSTER: Ivar will be a werewolf. The twist is that, in reference to the Norse werewolves who had to put on a wolfskin to transform, he'll have to rip off his skin in order to transform. If he tries to resist the urge, it will feel increasingly painful to be in his own human skin until he absolutely has to do so. This can happen in stages, such as gaining wolf ears and a tail or all at once to transform completely. He'll be a grey wolf standing at about his human height of six feet. Due to having an extreme amount of rage, the longer he goes without killing or having sex with anyone, he'll continue to grow until he tops out at about the size of a van from muzzle to tail. His ice-blue eyes will remain in this form, making it easier to tell who he is. His strength, stamina, and five senses will be enhanced while his legs will still be weak and unable to fully take his weight in this form. His fury and rage will increase, making him desire to hunt and kill those around him. Being shown genuine kindness and compassion will calm him down from these rages.
