Character Name: Ivar "The Boneless" Ragnarsson
Canon: Vikings
Canon Point: Post Episode 4x18
In-Game Tattoo Placement: This on the right side of his ribs.
Current Health/Status: Very healthy for the most part. Does suffer from brittle bone syndrome, which has left him with legs unable to support his weight, a bluish tone to the whites of his eyes, and a very nasty temper due to being in constant pain.
Age: 16
Species: Human (with some divine heritage)
Content Warnings: Vikings as a whole has tons of violence, brutal death sequences, mutilations, maulings, rape, pillaging, familial incest, and other things from the time period. Ivar himself uses ableist language, is extremely violent, has some thoughts that can be interpreted as being incest, and has very little concept of consensual sex.
History: Here!
Personality: Ivar is a complicated Viking. On the surface, he looks like your average psychopath: burns people alive for shits and giggles and plays mind games to torment everyone around him. But dig a little deeper and he gets more complex. He's a product of the culture around him. The Norse are all about physical prowess and being born a cripple usually meant being put out in the woods to die of exposure, a merciful death rather then letting a child grow and suffer. Ivar grew up with almost everyone treating him with disdain and pity, seeing him as the poor weak runt that should have done the proper thing and died when he was a child.
Ironically, it was these sentiments that hardened Ivar's will. He decided he wasn't just going to live, he was going to thrive and prove he was just as good as any other Norse warrior. Being the youngest son of one of the most famous Vikings in the entire world also put added pressure on him to succeed. What became the core of his personality was his ever-present anger. Life dealt him a bad card and he responded with fury. Despite all this, there were a few people like his family who managed to get past all the rage and hurt, and he responded by giving them eternal loyalty and love. When he gains a friend in the young Prince Alfred while being held captive in the English court, who shows him kindness and no fear when no one else will, he holds onto the chess piece given as a symbol of that friendship even years after the fact.
Whereas anyone born in the modern era who behaved the way he did would have been written off as a nutcase and either been put in jail for life or at the very least in an insane asylum, no one bats an eye at his behavior in the world of the Norsemen. In fact, because of the way he acts, he's considered to be a good member of their society once he starts being able to prove himself on the battlefield. Anyone who underestimates him for being "just a cripple" has their days numbered in his mind.
He finally got his chance to prove himself when his father returned after abandoning his family and duties as king ten years earlier. He offered Ivar a chance to come on a raid with him and the teen jumped at the chance, forgetting the resentment he'd built up towards Ragnar for ten years. This also showed another facet of his personality: Ivar's so used to people treating him with cruelty that the moment someone shows him genuine kindness, they're immediately forgiven all faults and he will love them to a point of blindness.
Over the next several years, Ivar develops into a brilliant tactician on the battlefield, first used when he and his brothers invade England to avenge their father's death. He might not be able to walk, but he can plan six steps ahead of anyone he goes up against, out-thinking them completely. This is because he's very clever and good at reading people even after knowing them for only a short amount of time. He can read his father like a book after only knowing the man for about a week and knows exactly how a English prince is going to direct his troops because he spent a little time in the man's court and go to witness things like his cruelty firsthand. At the same time, losing his father and mother breaks him down a little. He comes to think that anyone who he loves and cares about will leave him eventually whether by choice or by dying. Though he hasn't quite reached the point of pushing everyone away before they can hurt him is a good idea, he soon will. This becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy when the rest of his brothers start getting tired of his bullshit and do just that soon after the canon point he's taken from.
On the flip side, Ivar has some good qualities to him even if they aren't there on the surface. He's got a bad temper and snaps at people a lot, but this is because he's in pain twenty-four/seven. It's not exactly like they have Tylenol or even morphine he can take back in 816, so he's just learned to deal with it. But because of this, he can come off as quite unpleasant just on a first impression. If someone can persist in being patient with him and get him to open up a little, he can bond very quickly with them, to the point of becoming ridiculously loyal. Those who are kind to him have a friend for life unless they betray him and he's very quick to forgive people of their faults all the way to the point of blindness. Heck, his father flat-out turned into a deadbeat who abandoned the family for ten years to go "find himself" or some crap. After only just one conversation where Ivar airs his resentments and anger, which then leads to Ragnar treat him equal to his other sons, he's completely forgiven him and is ready to accompany him on a voyage to England.
There's a few aspects of Norse society presented in the show in general that it's worth mentioning here just because they are radically different from today's world and do affect his thinking. Besides the aforementioned aspect of expecting physical prowess from all members of society, both men and women could fight on the battlefield, with women that did so highly respected as shieldmaidens. But even those that found other roles were not without power. Ivar's mother is the queen and rules completely in her husband's stead when he fucks off for ten years and does a much better job of it than he did, expanding the town they were in into a thriving port city. There is no real "gender divide" between them. Sexuality is likewise rather fluid, for they don't really have a concept of hetero and homosexual. Instead, the main focus is on who is the dominant one in the bedroom. Threesomes are not found to be uncommon either. They also were very clean in comparison to other societies of the time, notably much more than the Saxons of England. Both Norse men and women liked the following: doing their hair, clothes, jewelry, and flowers. None of these things were considered to be more "masculine" or "feminine", they were just things that everyone could enjoy.
Abilities/Powers/Weaknesses & Warping: Ivar has immense upper body strength from literally crawling around most of his life. According to showrunners, he has brittle bone syndrome, so in order to get around, he's either got to move himself using only his arms, or wait around for someone willing to carry him. Being without the use of his legs didn't keep him from learning how to wield weapons and he's shown to actually be better at archery and with a throwing ax than three of his brothers. He can also wield a sword well enough to end in a tied draw with one of them too. He's very intelligent, and despite being young, can devise military strategies good enough to win battles. Aside from this, he's just a normal human being.
Inventory: A throwing axe, one outfit, chariot and horse to pull it.

Permissions for Character: Here!
Are you comfortable with prominent elements of fourth-walling?: I am! He's already a historical figure so plenty of fourth wall opportunities there.
What themes of horror/psychological thrillers do you enjoy the most?: I enjoy getting inside a character's head, putting them through the wringer, and psychologically breaking them down one piece at a time until they're nothing but a shivering wreck. However, removing a few organs not necessary for living here and there is also occasionally fun.
Is there anything in particular you absolutely need specific content warnings for?: Nope
